Assam’s boxing sensation Ankushita Boro strikes gold in first NE Olympic Games in Imphal.


North East Olympic Games 24-28 Oct is underway at the Khuman Lampak sports complex in Imphal, Manipur. Over 2000 players and officials from the Northeastern states and Sikkim are participating in the first edition of the Games.
It may be mentioned here that Ankushita had on November 26 2017 won gold at the AIBA World Youth Women’s Boxing Championship, being one of only five Indians to do so.
Boro hails from Meghai Jarani, a village in Sonitpur district.
She trained under Tradeep Bora, a boxing coach. She won her district’s Best Boxer Award in 2013, and a gold medal for her state in 2015. In early 2017, she earned a bronze medal in the National Youth Championship.
Her father Rakesh Kumar is a primary school teacher on probation and mother Ranjita works for an NGO.
Ankushita’s next targets is 2020 Olympics.
